Hiking in Ouirgane
A short three-day excursion showcasing the marvelous landscapes of red earth hills with oak pine forests interspersed with herbs, as well as the incredible Berber villages and their inhabitants. There are many accommodations that we use in the Ouirgane area, if there is one in particular that you would like to stay at then let us know and we would be glad to arrange it for you. Itineraries:
1st Day: |
Marigha - Ouirgane – Ijoukak - Tinmel mosque
From Marigha ("the salty place") or Marrakech your guide and private transportation will meet you at the hotel at 09:00 in the morning to start driving. You will visit Ouirgane village, after 1.5hrs of driving, and the new dam to snap some photos. Following this stop, by car you will continue to the n'Fiss Gorges and Tagadirt n'Lbour, Moldikht, Imgdal, Igr n’Kouris, Ijoukak, and Talat n'Yakoub which has a weekly market on Tuesday.
In the Oued n’Fis valley, you will find some Juniper, Barbary fig, apricot, cherry, almond and walnut trees. From here, you start to walk to Ait Berihi, Imawnan, and to Tinmel villages, followed by a visit to the 12th century mosque, Tinmel Mosque. We may enter the mosque, built by Abd el Moumen between 1153-1154. Afterward, we will go back to Ijoukak for lunch in a local Berber family's home. After lunch, you will be taken back to the n'Fis Valley and Gorges by car and finally returning back to the hotel. Today's walking time will be about 2 hours. Driving will be three hours in total.

| 2nd Day: |
Marirgha – Ouirgane - Lkhmis - Torord - Tassa ouirgane - Marigha From Marigha ("the salty place") or from Marrakech your guide will meet you at the hotel at 09:00 in the morning to start the walk. If in Marrakech your guide will meet you at your hotel or raid with private transportation to bring you to Marirgha. You will first go up to the Tirst Plateau and down to Ouirgane forest, full of junipers and pine trees. Following, you will continue to L'khmis Village, the village of Torourd , and then up through the Azaden Valley with very nice views of Takhrkhourt (large forest) in Toubkal National Park . Then, it is on to the Tasa Ouirgane with a waterfall and village. Here, we will have lunch in a local Berber family's home and finally head back a different route to the Marirgha hotel or drive to Marrakech. The total walking time will be five hours. If you are staying in Marrakech add an additional 1hr or transportation time each way. |

Marigha – Imarighenn’ouflla - Tinzert - Tizintarabzag - Tagadirt n’ousni
From Marigha ("the salty place") or Marrakech your guide will meet you at your hotel at 09:00 in the morning. Your Mountain Guide will lead you towards the south along mule tracks near a long salty stream to arrive in the village of Imarighen Izdernin (1,150m) and on to Imareghan Noufla (1,224m) with its age-old stone oil presses still using the traditional grinding round of donkeys or mules. From here, with Takherkhourte Mountain (2,510m) to our right, we will trek alongside scattered fields of corn/maize, seasonal wild flowers, olive tree groves and eventually the Berber village of Tinzert.
Here, you will have a picnic in the Tizi n’Tarabzag pass (1,620m) with a big forest of oak trees. After your picnic lunch, you will continue to Tagadirt n’Ousni and Tamgounssi village and from here you can find our private transport. This hike including transportation time to and from the hotel is approximately five hours.
